The Gods Eclipsed

The Eclipsed Collection by Cooper is a commentary on the momentum of digital art in the age of cryptocurrency and explosion of NFTs in popular culture.

With the advent of NFT technology as proof of ownership for digital art, and the commercial success of artists such as Beeple and Pak on NFT marketplaces like SuperRare, Rarible and OpenSea, critics are taking digital art seriously. Serious questions are being asked about the value of NFTs and whether NFT sales will eclipse those of more traditional art forms.

The Gods Eclipsed is the most significant in the collection. My other pieces in the collection suggest that NFT art can eclipse creators such as Klimt, Van Gogh or Schiele. In this piece I suggest the opposite.

The circle represents the overwhelming presence of NFT art but it cannot overshadow the light of the creator. The particles that peel away from its edges are crucifixes, seemingly disappearing into the void but ever present and unfaltering. Unlike the the other pieces in the collection, the light of the creator cannot be eclipsed. Art is art, and its creation is a wonder of human achievement, but all human creation pales into insignificance compared to the creation of the universe.

This is a unique, single edition. No more will be minted.
